Licence

Pacsmith is released under the Apache License, Version 2.0. The authoritative text is LICENSE in the repository; this page only says what it means in practice. Where the two differ, the file wins.

What it gives you

• Use, modify and redistribute, including commercially and in closed-source products.
• An explicit patent grant from contributors covering their contributions — the main reason Apache-2.0 is usually the licence a bank’s counsel is least unhappy about.
• No copyleft on your own code. You are not obliged to open-source what you build on top.

What it asks of you

• Keep the licence and copyright notices with any copy or substantial portion.
• State significant changes you made to the files you redistribute.
• Keep the NOTICE attributions, if a release ever ships one.
• Do not use the project’s names or marks to endorse your derivative.

What it does not give you

Apache-2.0 provides the software “as is”, without warranties or conditions of any kind, and limits contributor liability. That is not boilerplate to skim past here: this project is early development, is not production-ready, and is not certified or approved by any payment operator. If you put it on a path that moves real money, the testing, the sign-off and the risk are yours.

The patent grant also terminates for anyone who initiates patent litigation alleging the software infringes — worth knowing, rarely relevant.
